Keeping your screen locked the moment you step away is the habit that prevents the everyday exposure in between, and many workplaces expect it. But the usual methods trip you up. Why you forget to lock
Stepping away from your desk is rarely a conscious decision with a clear endpoint. You grab water, join a meeting in another room, take a call outside, or chat with a colleague. At runtime, each camera frame is turned into feature vectors and compared to the enrollment. If they are close enough, a face is present. Setting up camera-based walk-away lock
To make walk-away locking work on macOS, a few system settings must align.
1. Require password immediately on sleep
Open System Settings (gear icon in the Dock or top-left Apple menu). Go to Lock Screen. Find "Require password after sleep or screen saver" and set it to "immediately." This tells macOS that whenever the screen sleeps or a lock is triggered, a password unlock is mandatory. Without this setting, a sleep event or screen saver can trigger without actually locking the screen; you can wake it with any key press.
